Any connection
with North America will be posted here.
You will see many references to crossings from Canada to the US this
was brought about by the British offering fares of 15/- shillings to Canada rather than
£5 to the USA to deflect immigration to the US but the Irish soon found that a 15/- fare
and a walk across the border was quite a saving.

SIR - Although justly sensible that your character is already too well established for
humanity to your passengers, and stands too high to receive any addition
from our testimony; yet still, Sir, as our minds are deeply impressed with a sense of your
attention to us all during this autumn voyage, permit us to assure you
of our lasting gratitude. You not only supplied us with fuel and water, but with the
kindness of a friend, interested yourself in our affairs, and supplied our
wants, not only of medicine, but of every thing beside. Accept, Sir, our tribute of
thanks, and our sincere prayers, that during a long and prosperous life, you
may be as successful and as happy as we wish you; and believe us to be gratefully, your

Moore, Rev. William - 5th.
December 1836 - from the Belfast Commercial Chronicle 1st. February 1836
On the 5th December last, at the house of the Rev. G. Orr, Lisbon, United States of
America, after a lingering
illness, which he bore with gratitude and resignation to the will of
his Divine Master, the Rev. Wm. [William?]
Moore, formerly of Newtownards. He had received his
license under the Presbytery of Belfast, and afterwards removed to
America. When he was soon elected Minister of the Presbyterian Congregation at Oxbow, in
Jefferson County, State of New
York. His labours there as a Christian pastor, were highly blessed - in the pulpit,
earnest, animating and
persuasive; in Private society, unassuming, affectionate and liberal, he not only procured
the affectionate regard
of those who were immediately under his charge, but the esteem of all who were acquainted
with
his walk in life. He was not allowed, however, to remain long in the field of his
Christian usefulness;
in "the heat of the day," and while his sun was only in its meridian, he was
called to give an account of his
labours. The apparent abruptness of his removal may excite the wonder of his friends, yet
he did not
regard the dispensation as premature. He knew in whose hand "his times" were,
and by the Strength
of Divine grace he was enabled to meet it in the exercise of a lively faith, and the well
- founded hope
of a glorious immortality. Assuming his own correspondence, and the letters of his most
intimate friends, as descriptive
of his spiritual experience, we may refer to the manner of his death as a practical
illustration of the words
"Mark the perfect, and behold the upright, for the latter end of that MAN is
peace."
