of which the deceased's father was proprietor. The child disappeared on Sunday afternoon and the body was found the following morning when the water was run off the pond.

11th. February 1914 Donaghadee lifeboat crew respond to a summons to go to the relief of a vessel in Red Bay Co. Antrim.
arrived after an arduous and long journey, the captain of the vessel decided not to accept their help.

16th. February 1914 Donaghadee post office - William Kennedy appointed senior postman in succession to Robert Dunn, who retired owing to ill health.

30.7.1914 James Bunting a well known Donaghadee boatman pluckily rescues from drowning a boy named Mulligan a visitor to the town who had fallen into the waterand was being carried out to sea.

5.8.1914 James Stewart of Donaghadee whilst cycling along Shore St. collides with a motor car and sustains severe injuries.

9.8.1914 Death as the result of an accident at Melstone Montana USAof Hugh youngest son of William Herron New St. Deceased had travelled 8 miles beyond his destination and had started to walk back by the railway line when he was overtaken by a freight train and killed , both his legs being severed.

15.8.1914 T. Dowling wins "Roberts" medal in contest promoted by the Donaghadee Miniture Rifle Club.

24.8.1914 Three ladies and a gentleman in motoring from Donaghadee were challenged by a sentry on duty at Orlock. Not realising that the challenge was directed at them the party proceeded on. the sentry fired and wounded one of the occupants a Miss McGeown of Belfast, She succumbed to her injuries on the 26th. At the inquest the sentry was exonerated from all blame.

5.9.1914 Donaghadee Miniture Rifle Club - H.F.E. Richardson wins the Miniture rifle (presented by G.L. de la Cherois J.P. and R.F. McCrea) and James Crosbie the "Express" medal.

Galway, James - 9th. November 1914 - Borders Regiment, of Donaghadee formerly of Newtownards, wounded in one of the battles in France, Invalided home to the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast.

15.11.1914 Three-masted barque Inverrurie, 1,417 tons, of Aberdeen, goes ashore at Barkley's Point, Ballyferris, Between Ballywalter and Donaghadee and becomes a total wreck. She was bound for Sydney with a cargo mainly of rock salt.
