The origin of the name Bradshaw comes from the Township of Bradshaw in the Parish of Bolton-Le-Moors, Lancashire, England.  In the early 13th century this old district of Bolton was called "Bradeshaghe" meaning a "broad wood" or copse.

Bradshaw, Robert 5th. - c1778 - (Father Thomas Bradshaw 4th. of Milecross) - (Mother Sarah Hoare) - Married and had children two of whom were Joseph and Joshua.
Robert was know as "Mad Bradshaw" because of his eccentric habits and on his death Milecross became the property of Joseph who later sold it to John Tate. The land west of Milecross was owned by Joshua and was known as "Joshua's Farm".   Mad Robert was also once known to have tried to reintroduce snakes back into ireland by importing and releasing them at Milecross, the creatures did not survive ....
