Help Needed

Hello there, I am the grt-grt granddaughter of Henry Dollaghan and live in West Cumbria.  Henry came to Whitehaven in 1846/47 with his family and I have been able to track his life and that of his children since his arrival almost completely.  Henry was a Quarryman and died 1879.  He was relatively successful, but his son John who died aged 39 in 1881 was very successful and left a great deal of money.  He was a builder, quarrymaster and farmer and built churches & houses.  His last “big build” was Whitehaven Market Hall.  They were all staunch Presbyterians and attended 1st Presbyterian in Francis Street, and in Whitehaven, the Scotch Presbyterian church which had been built by the Irish around 1800.  Henry immediately became known as “Dolloughan” and later (1860’s) spelt with only one ‘l’.  They always had lodgers, especially from Newtownards area and I am busy researching these people and finding (with the help of your site & Ross Davis site) they are just about all connected to the family. Jane Dollaghan (who was Henry’s sister & married to William Savage) died in Whitehaven in 1856 and I have info on them.  Also Henry Campbell (son of Mary Robb & Robert Campbell) was probably a nephew (Henry’s wife was Agness Robb.

I know nothing of Henry’s parentage and no-one has been able to help.  The Dromar “Doloughans” know nothing either.   The first info. I have found is the headstone erected by Henery Dollonghon for Jane & son John which is on your website and I know it is at Movilla Cemetary but I am not altogether convinced this is his father!  Maybe I could have a mention on your site requesting any info which may be out there

I am very willing to supply info & source details regarding Henry & Agness’ family and lodgers.

Best Wishes and thanks for a great site.  Susan Robertson (nee Doloughan)  P.S. Sorry if you got this message twice! mail-red.jpg (434 bytes)
