McBlain, James - 1914-1918 48 Movilla Street Signaller 16th Royal Irish Rifles

McBlain, Stewart - 1914-1918 66 Movilla Street Private 3rd Inniskilling Fusiliers

Additional info Dec.2012 from Anne Forbes nee McBlain - Grandaughter of James who;
Married Anne Mary White from No:4 Church Terrace, Newtownards. They married at Greenwell Street Presbyterian Church by Thomas McIlwrath on 24th December 1902 after James returned from the Boer War.  He was in the Mounted Infantry - 1st Gordons.
They lived at 38 Movilla Street, Newtownards and had 3 Children, James born 1905 Movilla Street, an artist who painted lots of pictures of
King Billy (pitures to follow). It is alledged that he painted murals on gable ends in Mill Street. James never married and died in 1980 in
Corby Northants, England
Stewart born June  1906 (my dad) born 38 Movilla Street, Newtownards who worked at Haw Hill Farm in 1929 when he married my mum Agnes Jane Sandford (cousin to Newtownards Butcher and Salvation Army man Tommy Sandford). My mum was living in Greenwell Street at the time of her marriage to my gorgeous dad. Stewart was a Piper and an upholsterer/Carpenter in his spare time.  He was in the Ulster
Volunteers (see photo enclosed) Royal Signals TA and The Royal Corps of Signals XXX Corps in WW2. Da's cousin William McBlain son of
Stewart McBlain and Maggie Shields, husband of Rose Stevenson was killed.  Not sure of the full story.
Henry (Harry) born July 1907 at the same address as his brothers. Harry married Elizabeth Norris and raised a family in Corby Northants
Harry was very tiny, I don't think he was as tall as 5ft. He was well known in Corby as 'Pal'.  He never had his shirt buttoned up and was a
fabulous gardener like all of his brothers except my dad haha.
The brothers went to Scotland to live after Harry was born, with their parents. More children followed in Scotland and then James Senior
joined the Gordon Highlanders.  He was a special reservist as he had fought in the Boer war being awarded the Queens South Africa Medal and Clasp 'Transvaal'.  James was killed in 1914 and eventually, Anne known as Minnie came back to Newtownards with her children except for one boy called John who went to Canada.  He joined his mother and siblings at no. 14 Wallaces Street

The family gradually moved to Corby in Northamptonshire where they settled
