6/4/1930 - 12/2/2010. He was born in Ballynahinch, but moved to Newtownards, I think some
time just before the start of WW2. This I know because he was at scout camp in Killynether
the day war was declared.
He left school and worked in the ice cream factory then joined the Royal Navy. He met my
mum , who is from London and married in 1952. Lived in England for a number of years,
after leaving the Navy he was a cobbler, must be in the blood, my uncle William had a
saddlery in Court Square, next to Falls pub. Moved back to Newtownards in 1967, lived in
the Glen Estate, for a number of years, he had various jobs, but the main one was working
for Cyril Lord at Donaghadee Carpet Factory. Then in later years he went back to shoe
repairing, had a wee shop at back of newtownards bus station until he retired. By the way
the man on the goat is my grandfather, also Joe, and Jim Tate was his brother
