E.Mail from Eddy Abby, December
2014 - I spoke to my Aunt Elsie and pried open her memories .
Mitchel Grays Second Daughter Matilda Aunt Tilly as I heard
called married Robert (Bobby) Adair.
Robert was part of the T.A , Reserve or Territorial Army, they were called up for
the Second World War ; he was captured and became a POW. He did return home
after the War.
Matilda and Robert Adair and their 4 children Bertie, Marie, Michael and James, (May died
young) plus her brother Robert (he was a bit slow as he had suffered Meningitis
as a child) all lived with Mitchel Gray in his home at #41 Wallace Street .
Mitchel had a larger house with 3 bedrooms and large living room that was partitioned off
to make a 4th room.
The Swans ( I noticed the wonderful picture you have on site) lived across
the street from Mitchel.
Mitchel Gray died in 1950 and his daughter Matilda in 1964 Elizabeth in 1974. They
are buried in Movilla.
James Adair , Robert and Matildas son, is still alive , and lives
in Newtownards . He was born after Roberts return from the War.
The photo I have attached HERE
is an old one from my mothers album sent years ago dated 1957. It is of
Matilda and her daughter both now deceased and her granddaughter .
. Mrs Swan is looking out the door.
I noticed on your website a Sergeant Robert Adair at #42 Wallace Street who went Missing
in WW2. Is there any Connection?
