Hi
Janet - I feel so excited now, I won't sleep tonight lol. My granny was Anne Mary White
but was known as Minnie. In 1901 she was aged 20 and lived at 4 church terrace with her
mum Mary White and her brother William James White. Mary was born about 1857
, William James was born in 1886 in George's Street. I have searched for my granny's birth
entry for 20 odd years. She was the reason I started my tree because I adored her and no
one knew anything about her. I found one birth entry thanks to Raymond Kelly. He has a
site with lots of info. He sent me a list of births and only the one fitted. It was 1880
and born in North Street, mother Mary and father william. William was at sea when she was
born. The confusion with granny is that when my granny and grandad were getting married,
grandad gave notice of intention to marry and said granny's father was David White and
that he was deceased. So which is correct? I sent off to Groni
and obtained William James birth cert. This said that Mary was a Cousins
and there was no father entered into the registration. I was a registrar of births etc
until 4 years ago and I have just come up against a brick wall. I even wrote to the down
recorder and down radio. I found mcblain cousins but no whites. My name is Anne Mary White
McBlain now forbes. I'm called for my granny. She was a sewer but don't know where in
1901. She married in 1902. There is no trace of mary white nee cousins after 1901 that I
can find. She was an embroiderer. Hope thus isn't too confusing.
