Apprentice Boys
The "Apprentice Boys" were one of the strongest Lodges in the nineteenth century. Formed in the 1840s, one of its leading members was Viscount Castlereagh. Before the building of the Orange Hall it used to meet in the Good Templar Hall which was situated in West Street.

The lodge held their third annual social in Mr.Cowans Temperance Hotel on Movilla
Street friday evening last. There was a large attendance of members and friends and start
to finish the evening was most successful, a very pleasant evening being spent. After tea
which was provided by Mr.Cowan it was moved by Br. A.Filson snr. D.M. , M.C.C. and
recorded by Br. Hugh McBride that Br. Hugh Lavery occupy the chair. The chairman having
addressed those present the secretary Br. A.Filson Jnr. read letters of apology from Br.
T.R. Lavery District Master; Br. James Mawhinney D.D.M. and Br. James Wright District
Secretary who were unable to be present. Songs were then contributed by Miss maggie
Morrow, Miss Cairns, Miss Lily Filson and Br. W.J.McBride, William Dunn, John Flemming,
Hugh McBride, A.Filson Snr., Alexander Lavery, A.Filson Jnr., Hugh Lavery. Pianoforte
solos by Miss Lily Morrow, violin solo by Br.Robert Copeland and addresses by Br. A.Filson
Snr., Br. Joseph Robinson, Brs. William and John Thompson. Miss Lily Morrow and Miss M.
Cowan very efficiently played the accompaniments.
A hearty vote of thanks to the artistes was moved by Br. H.Lavery seconded by Br. Edward
Swindle and passed enmthusiastically by all.
