High Street was the original thoroughfare used by merchants and shopkeepers and was
gradually extended with the addition of Mill Street heading towards Belfast and Greenwell
Street heading towards Donaghadee etc.
1784 It was decided to
install street lighting in the town and High Street would have 12 lamps
situated at Michael Rankins - T.Taggarts - Mrs.Stewarts - Mr.Turnleys - Mr.McCullys
Mr.Caldwells - Mr.Bruces - Mr.Fishers - Mr.Darleys - John Mooreheads - Mr.Merrys -
