Many thanks for your nice letter of this morning. These are two of the houses and you
can see the school (Bishop's Hall and Garden, St. Andrews) in the background. All the
school post cards are hideous and don't do the place justice by any means. The grounds
& buildings are all that could be desired & the colouring of the trees &
flowers & playgrounds is the great charm. much love g.a.m. 18th October 1906. St.
Andrews.
Sunday morning. Just going off to Church, have written to Groshen? Very much love and
kisses my dearest Mother from her own Adelaide. 7th November 1906. St.Andrews
I am writing to Grannie, very, very best love & much, much of it for you &

Sat. Very stormy passage (!) & windy & showery here. today but sunshine
between writing so?. Seems very pretty here but haven't seen much yet. Expecting the
Davidsons any time, it is not 5o'c. Have been looking at sea & shops & enjoying
it. Ever yours F.Saint-Malo
Thank you very much for your card. I
impatiently await a longer letter from you, hopefully with good news. As of the 8th, I will be at home at
"Ch.de Vinet 94, Lausanne. As you see, we
have moved. A thousand kisses to your mother
and to you and all my affection. Write soon.

Sarah
Martin a 4th. Grade Teacher at Castle gardens National School
Mny thanks go to Bob Burrows in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania for this e.mail
Hi Derek,
Bob Burrows here writing you from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA. I have written you
before. I was thrilled to see the picture of Sarah Martin "a 4th Grade teacher
at Castle Gardens National School". You noted that dates etc. were under
research. I think I can help you out with some information on Sarah Martin.
Sarah was born in 1882 and died on Jan 16, 1976 at age 94.
Sarah was one of six children of John Martin (1843-Aug 9, 1922) and
Isabella Stuart (1842-Feb 5, 1941).
Sarah never married. Sarah's Mother Isabella Stuart Martin "known as
Auntie Martin" was the older sister of my Great Grandmother Eliza Ann Stuart (Oct 3,
1846-Jan 13, 1922) who was married to my Great GrandFather James McCartney (March 15,
1847-Oct 17, 1910).
Sarah Martin was the Niece of my Great Grandparents. My Great GrandFather James
McCartney owned the Pioneer Motor Service that you have listed on your Newtownards
"Transport-Buses" page.
I have never seen the picture of Sarah Martin you have on your web site (see
attachment No. 1). My picture attachment no. 2 shows Sarah Martin with her
Mother Isabella Stewart Martin taken in 1927. {BELOW}You can see the similarity to your picture of
Sarah.
A third attachment shows Sarah with her Mother Isabella and her cousin Anna Stewart
McCartney (First daughter of Hugh McCartney and Margaret Blair) taken in the 1930's.
Anna was the first child of my Great Uncle Hugh McCartney who was the Newtownards
Town Clerk from 1900 to 1931. Hugh McCartney was the first child of my Great
Grandparents James McCartney and Eliza Ann Stuart (also spelled Stewart). Hugh
McCartney was my Grandmother Mary McCartney Burrows older Brother. Both Hugh and my
Grandmother Mary were first cousins of Sarah Martin.
Picture attachment 4 shows Sarah Martin's parents John Martin and Isabella
Stuart taken in 1904. Attachment No. 5 shows 47 Court Street (orange house HERE) in Newtownards where
Sarah Martin lived. Her parents lived next door in the white house with the red door
when both of Sarah's parents were living.
Attachment no.6 shows my Great Grandparents James McCartney and Eliza Ann
Stuart taken in 1892. This shows what James McCartney looked like when he ran
the Pioneer Bus Line. The last picture attachment shows my Great Uncle Hugh
McCartney (Newtownards Town Clerk)(Jan 17, 1869-Nov 18, 1934) with his Wife Margaret
"Maggie" Blair (April 12, 1873-Nov 6, 1940) with their first two children Anna
Stewart McCartney (Nov 19, 1901-Dec 23, 1983) and James McCartney(Feb 6, 1903-Aug 14,
1981). HERE
Sarah Martin is buried in Movilla Cemetery with her parents and other five
siblings. Sorry to overwhelm you with to much information but I thought
you might find it interesting to see how Sarah Martin ties into my Burrows/McCartney Line.
If you need any additional information or pictures, I will be glad to supply
it to you to add to your wonderful "History of Newtownards" web Site.
Best wishes, Bob Burrows
Sarah
